Grading Policies & Procedures
Grades are based on the total number of points earned. Spanish I students earn points for the following types of assignments:
Notebook (Cuaderno)
Projects/Compositions
Quizzes
Unit Tests
Mid-Term/Final Exams
Homework/Classwork
Notebook(Cuaderno): The students will create an interactive notebook that they keep especially for Spanish class. It is a tool to help students stay organized and to help them study for tests and quizzes. I will post the entries for each chapter in Google Classroom. Typically, I will post 10 assignments per chapter. Students should keep up with their notebook entries at all times and be prepared to show their work for a grade or upload to Google Classroom.
Projects/Compositions:
Throughout the semester I will assign projects and/or compositions individually or in groups depending on the needs of the class and the content being presented. Each assignment will have an instruction sheet and a rubric to define the characteristics of quality work.
Quizzes/Tests/Exams:
A quiz is an accuracy check to see how students are progressing with the lesson. We will typically have two or three quizzes for each chapter, then a test over the whole unit. In the event that a student does not achieve the grade desired on an assessment, I do offer the opportunity for a re-do at my discretion pending certain criteria. **A student must speak with me to determine eligibility, and schedule and take a re-do assessment within 5 days of receiving the original test or quiz back.** Re-do assessments will only be given after school, never during regular class time.
Homework/Classwork:
When I assign homework, I expect that it be completed for a homework check the next class period. Homework is not graded on correctness, but rather on effort, so even if a student is struggling with a concept, he/she should at least attempt all of the assigned work to receive a completion grade. Students receive half credit for their initial attempt in blue/black ink, and the other half credit is earned when students correct their work with me in class with a red pen. I will also take up classwork from time to time to check the students’ progress on a lesson. Students should use classwork time wisely to maximize opportunities to ask questions.
